URBANA — Urbana sophomore Gabriella Savoy doesn’t score a lot, so she was excited to contribute a much-needed goal off a Colby Johnson assist in Tuesday’s tight game against rival Linganore. But that was far from the most important play Savoy and Johnson joined forces on. That honor went to the final draw of the night, and it came right after Lancers sophomore Sedona Brown scored to narrow Urbana’s lead to one with 55.1 seconds left. kAm%96@C6E:42==J[ 2== E96 w2H<D ?66565 E@ D64FC6 E96 H:?

MIDDLETOWN — Like pretty much every other softball player, Walkersville’s Caitlin Hinkelman will likely fail more than succeed as a hitter. Nonetheless, she still strives to be confident at the plate. Working countless hours in the batting cage with her father, Lions coach Randy Hinkelman, helps. kAm“%92E’D C62==J H92E 8:G6D >6 E96 4@?7:56?46 :? Senior Anna Alt thought her Oakdale girls lacrosse teammate, freshman Ellie Kuhn, had just scored the game-winning goal in double overtime against Linganore. After going six years without beating the Lancers, a stretch that included a pair of down-to-the-wire losses last season, and seeing Linganore erase a six-goal deficit in the second half Friday, it looked like Oakdale's long wait for another win against its rival was finally over.

URBANA - Coach Joe Amick's Tuscarora's girls lacrosse team had just lost 14-6 to an opponent that he called a "powerhouse." Urbana seems deserving of a such a description. The Hawks (6-2) have key returnees from last year's state finalist, which came closer than any other Frederick County girls lacrosse team to winning a state crown, and their only losses since then were close ones to Liberty and Century, traditional powers from lacrosse-rich Carroll County.
