Several years back, I bought a SodaStream machine, which I used for a while but sort of got tired of it and set it aside in a corner. I’ve been thinking about it lately. At some point, Pepsi bought the SodaStream company; back when I used to use my machine, SodaStream sold its own, generic cola (and other flavor) syrups.

A few days ago, I made a post on social media about the whole Last Supper Olympics controversy. It was well-received by a lot of people, but not everyone. I made a point in that post that a lot of people have missed. I should let the matter lie, but I feel compelled to come back to it. Let's imagine, for purposes of discussion, that in the closing ceremonies of the Olympics, something happens that is clearly and unambiguously meant to make fun of some sort of Christian imagery.

One of the most awful things about our current political situation is that people accuse anyone they disagree with of "hating" America. You don't like my chosen candidate or party, ergo you must hate America. What a horrible thing to say! There are good and bad people on either end of the political spectrum, but I'll say that most people involved in politics in one form or fashion do it because they *love* America and want to make it better (or keep it from getting worse).

Two very different types of classes have been a surprising blessing to me in 2024. This is about gratitude. But before I get to the gratitude, I have to explain what I’m grateful for. The past couple of years were discouraging to me in some ways. I turned 60 in 2022, and in 2022 I and others in my family watched a beloved family member fall deeper and deeper into Alzheimer’s Disease. We struggled to make sure that he was properly cared for.
