As we dive deeper into January — 2024 gets further and further away. We can't wait to see what the New Year brings, but we're human, and we can't help but look back — as one would on a great vacation, a promotion at work, a wonderful family memory. But also to take inventory of missed opportunities and take advantage of new ones in 2025. 2024 had plenty of movies ... including blockbusters, indie favorites, and sequels galore.

I remember sitting in the theater in 2016 with two of my young kids and watching "Moana" for the first time. I was moved by the music, enthralled by the story, connected to the characters and amused at the comedy. It was a home run; I knew it would be a Clyde family favorite. It's eight years later, and "Moana 2" is now in theaters. I wasn't expecting to be as surprised and delighted with this sequel as I was with the original, but I was optimistic and excited.

It's been 24 years since we first entered the Colosseum with Maximus Decimus Meridius. Twenty-four years since the general turned slave turned Gladiator told us what we do in life echoes in eternity and undoubtedly entertained us. In 2000, "Gladiator" won best picture, best actor and three more Academy Awards after garnering 12 nominations. In addition to all the hardware, the movie also earned nearly half a billion dollars at the global box office.

When I was in college, I went horseback riding with some friends. Why? I don't know. How did we randomly have access to several horses? I have no idea. But you need to stop focusing on the how, OK? While on the trail, my horse lost his footing. It tripped, and then, to recover, he jumped and kicked. This all happened in a matter of seconds, but it was powerful and violent. If my math is correct, this equine was one horsepower, which is pretty impressive. I'm only one man-power and barely that.
