There are a number of capable competitors in the high-end sport-utility/crossover segment offering high levels of horsepower and performance, all wrapped in leather-lined luxury. This is not to say that buyers of means aren’t concerned with getting the most for their dollar, though. In that light, it’s hard to top the fleet from Genesis.

The budget-friendly Golf was for years Volkswagen’s everyman vehicle, having supplanted its original “people’s car,” the Beetle. Time marched on, though, and the Golf’s star in VeeDub’s heavens began to fade. As the burgeoning sport-utility and crossover segments increasingly dominated the automotive market, the subcompact hatchback’s spot in the company’s lineup has more or less been ceded to the small and roomy Taos SUV. But all was not lost for the Golf.
