A bill to authorize body cameras for law enforcement officers across state agencies has advanced in the state Senate. Senate Bill 520, sponsored by state Sen. Lisa Baker (R-Luzerne), would authorize deputy law enforcement officers with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Fish & Boat Commission, and Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Rangers and State Park Officers to wear body cameras. The measure was approved by a 13-1 vote in the chamber’s Judiciary Committee.

The topic of Sunday hunting is not new in Pennsylvania. For years, advocates, including the Pennsylvania Game Commission, have argued the state’s “blue laws” prohibiting hunting on Sundays stunt the growth of the sport. But, groups representing hikers and horseback riders have said they believe it’s important to have one day a week to enjoy the outdoors without the sound of gunfire in the fields and woods.

Malcolm Kenyatta (D-Philadelphia) told the Pennsylvania Capital-Star that he wanted to help the Democratic Party “get back to basics” as he launched his candidacy for Democratic Party National Committee (DNC) vice chair. On Feb. 1, Democrats convened to elect a slate of new leadership and Kenyatta won one of the three DNC vice chair positions.

House Bill 157, sponsored by state Rep. Kathy Rapp (R-Warren), would create a rural health care grant program to help pay off educational debt of nurses, doctors, dentists and other professionals.
