    Winter is a complicated season. For some people, the holiday season presents itself the opportunity to meet up with family and friends, enjoy good food and cozy up indoors. For others, the lack of sunlight and being locked inside due to the cold is taxing on the mind, body and soul. For me, it radically changes my running. Running in winter is also complicated. The days when it’s too cold and you’re forced to run on the treadmill or be on an indoor track make me want to pull my hair out.

    As the days get darker and stress starts mounting from finals on the horizon, some students need some kindness in their lives. On Nov. 13, the Doane Kindness Project aimed to offer that to students through several activities centered around World Kindness Day. “Being kind means to make others feel seen, loved, and heard. Going out of your way to make someone else feel better or doing something for someone for their benefit. Being kind is serving others before yourself.

    Studying abroad isn’t an option many students consider doing. Whether it’s because of financial hurdles, not having the time to do so, or just not knowing how accessible it can be for students. The Honors Program worked with students who recently studied abroad to show how accessible study abroad can be on Nov. 18 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Doane Cafeteria. “Study abroad enhances students’ Doane education by giving them a whole new perspective on the world.

    The 2024 election cycle has concluded and a majority of the results have been compiled for the Presidency, senate, house of representatives and local or state positions; however, some states are still compiling their votes as of Nov. 11, 2024. To start, Republican nominee former President Donald Trump clinched the presidency with 312 electoral college votes and won the popular vote with over 74 million votes.

    It isn’t very often that students start businesses while they are in college and it’s even rarer to see two student businesses at the same time. Sophomore Mary Blackledge and senior Alyssa Luebke both started businesses for their ENT 401 New Venture Experience taught by Assistant Professor of Practice in Entrepreneurship Lisa Tschauner.
