Team tidies up Leighton Buzzard estate A recent neighbourhood clean-up on the Meadow Way estate in Leighton Buzzard has helped tackle overgrown greenery and footpath moss, thanks to our Neighbourhood Operations team and volunteers.
The clean-up followed concerns raised by housing tenants about the condition of shared spaces on the estate, which we manage.

New woodlands named: Cope Spinney and Bidlake Spring We're excited to reveal the names of two new woodlands — Cope Spinney and Bidlake Spring — chosen by residents through a community vote. Located to the west and east of Vinegar Hill in Hatch, Sandy, these new woodland areas represent a significant milestone in the council’s sustainability ambitions. The tree planting will enhance local biodiversity, support wildlife, and contribute to nature recovery.

Over 100 homes brought back into use This Empty Homes Week (3 March to 9 March), we're pleased to announce that we've brought 103 empty homes back into use, helping to provide much-needed housing for residents. Of the homes we've brought back into use this year, over half had been empty for between 2 and 5 years, and 9 had been empty for over 10 years.

Majority of pupils receive preferred school place Pupils moving to secondary and upper schools in September have found out whether they have been allocated one of their school preferences. In total, 1,346 secondary school applications were received from families in Central Bedfordshire, with 87% receiving their first choice on National Offer Day (3 March).
There were 1,679 for applications for upper school places, with 98% offered their first preference.

Storm Henk flood investigation report published We've published a report into the impacts of Storm Henk in January 2024. More than 35 areas reported flooding affecting property, land and roads, with 15 reports of properties being flooded.
As required under Section 19 of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, we, as Lead Local Flood Authority, must investigate significant flood events where multiple properties are affected.

Register for removal of unwanted garden waste bins We're now taking requests for the removal of unwanted/unused green garden waste bins. Households that don’t plan to sign up for the garden waste collection subscription next year have until 10 January 2025 to request the removal of their unwanted bin. The bins will be collected across Central Bedfordshire in two phases between 6 and 31 January 2025.
