When you hear the word enlightenment, what do you think of? Many people typically think of monks living in Himalayan caves engaging in meditation and other austerities for years and years to achieve higher states of consciousness. Age-related loss of muscle mass has been directly linked to a shortened lifespan, blood sugar issues, frailty, morbidity (sickness), and much more. After the age of 30, we start losing 3 to 8% of our muscle mass per decade. After 60, this number is significantly higher. This involuntary loss of muscle mass as we age is called sarcopenia. Perhaps most concerning is the frailty that comes along with age-related muscle loss.
