Another Bertie County canine was euthanized last month due to the alleged mishandling and neglect from its owner, Lionel James Norfleet. Plants weren’t the only thing Bertie Master Gardeners were selling at their annual plant sale last week. The group is looking to increase membership. The Master Gardeners, in conjunction with the Bertie County office of the N.C. Extension Service held the annual sale on Friday at the Roanoke/Cashie River Center. The area had taken on a new look this year, since the former building, once housing Chief’s Sports Bar, had been completely removed, opening a clear view of the gardener’s plot.

In September of 1994, Karen and I went to California on our honeymoon. We arrived on a Saturday evening, walked San Francisco from the Golden Gate to the Mission District and many hills in between. We proceeded to wine country – Sonoma and Napa — on Monday and Tuesday, and on Wednesday we were in Sausalito. By Thursday afternoon we arrived in Carmel and stayed one night at Clint Eastwood’s Mission Ranch and the next night at the Pine Inn.
