The eighth annual Guns and Hoses game at Kaminsky Gym at Joplin High School had it all - even seven-point shots and a 10-point shot, a Joplin student hitting the half-court shot and taking home $500, and a rivalry rekindled as Joplin police officers on the Guns team scored a 57-56 win over the Hoses of the Joplin Fire Department.

A man who saved a historic Joplin train station, another who is restoring a century-old house, and two sisters who offered a glimpse of life in Joplin more than a century ago, were chosen for annual awards given by the Joplin Historic Preservation Commission. During Preservation Month in May, the commission gives out three awards - the Murphysburg Award, the Leslie Simpson Award and the Jeff and Carolina Neal Award.
