Sean Manaea might be a “sneaky good signing,” as one MLB talent evaluator told me Sunday, but even if that's the case it’s now as clear as can be the Mets are indeed taking a step back in 2024 and will need a best-case scenario to reach the postseason as a wild card team. It’s not a surprise.

The pursuit of pitching has been the theme of the Mets’ offseason, but let’s not forget the need to improve an offense that ranked 11th in the National League in runs scored in 2023 and produced a .238 team batting average, second-worst in the NL. The most glaring trouble spot is at DH, considering the Mets hit a league-worst .217 from that position in the lineup and slugged .391, which ranked 11th.

After losing out on Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the Mets appear to be shopping for pitchers only in the free-agent bargain aisle, seemingly determined to avoid long-term deals with anyone at or nearing age 30. So they’re looking for bounce-back candidates willing to sign short-term contracts as a way of restoring their value after injury or underperformance. That is, someone similar to Luis Severino, whom the Mets signed to a one-year, $13 million deal a few weeks ago.

John Graham CEO, Lumaflex. The business world is fast-paced, and every keystroke and meeting contributes to the daily grind. It's a reality that we devote a significant chunk of our day—eight hours or more—sitting at our desks. In fact, a study in the medical journal JAMA reveals that one in four U.S. adults sits for more than eight hours daily. This extensive desk time has given rise to the prevalent issue of workplace-related pain.

I’m just curious if the city of Kirkwood has any plans on fixing Geyer Road, specifically the blocks between Woodbine and Big Bend, but especially in front of Meramec College. That road is starting to remind me of the roads in Iraq after we did bombing runs. And my goodness, somebody with the city has had to drive down Big Bend at one point and made that tricky left onto Geyer Road and noticed that, as your driving, the signal for that turn cannot even been seen.

Kudos to Diaz for repeatedly getting the job done, now 9/9 in save opportunities, but he's playing with fire allowing base-stealers to run at will as Pirates did tonight. Long delivery makes it difficult but, as Darling said, needs to at least throw over to keep runners honest.

Mets fortunate the Pirates are feeble offensively, last in MLB in runs scored. But winning is all that matters as pitching continues to excel. Senga tough-minded again, a master at escaping trouble. 1 ER raised ERA to 1.22, only because ground ball went through Vientos' webbing.

Really impressive to see Baty stay on a down-and-away change-up from Keller and drive it oppo for pivotal HR. Mendoza called it "big-league power." 4th HR in last 5 games. Minor league success finally translating to better pitch recognition, more decisive swing decisions.
