    After the Northeast Kingdom saw devastation from recent rains earlier this week, community members are starting to rebuild, the best they can. One of the hardest-hit areas in town, Red Village Road, were destroyed by floodwaters, leaving many stranded with no way in or out. “It's going to be hard, but we'll get through it,” said Kelly Renna, who lives on the road. Renna and her neighbors are coping with being isolated, as the only way in or out is on foot or ATV.

    The ShackletonThomas Furniture and Pottery store saw another setback over the weekend, a fire broke out on the third floor. “We don't really know why it started. It could have been something electrical,” said Charles Shackleton, owner of the furniture-making business. He has been in business in Bridgewater for nearly 40 years making pottery and furniture in the old mill building. “They all say it's a tinderbox,” Shackleton said. “But we've been here 37 years and we've never had a fire.

    A paving project on Miracle Mile has been underway for months, but the wrong asphalt was applied and will have to be replaced. The roughly milelong stretch in Lebanon has been under construction for various projects. “They did all the water main work last year, and then we let everything settle and all the trenches settle and know this this summer,” said Jay Cairelli, Lebanon Public Works director.

    State officials have closed a bridge on U.S. Route 2 in East St. Johnsbury after it was deemed unsafe to travel on. Kelly McManus owns Aspire Behavioral clinic, which helps kids with autism. Their space is near the bridge, and she said the closure has been negatively affecting the ability of her students to get out and about. “During the day, we take the kids down to a local school to play on the playground,” McManus said.
