However, it is not Mozart who affects infants the most. The soothing tone of a loving mother is much more effective. A recent study by Yale’s Child Studies Center confirmed the beneficial effect of singing to infants. Researchers sought to measure the advantages of singing over not singing.

Everyone criticizes Gen Z as a generation that grew up with computer screens and iPhones and is thus unable or at least unwilling to read books. The scenes I have witnessed on streets and in airports seem to confirm this reading-adverse characterization. Everywhere you go, Gen Z is online, staring at screens. College professors report that many incoming students do not regularly read books. The message is that Gen Z posts on social media. It texts. It doesn’t do books.

Faith must have its physical and visual expression. The return of the altar rail is a refreshing and sublime response to a distorted vision of the Church. It reintroduces the traditional teachings of the Church with awe and wonder, delighting the worshiper and resurrecting fervor for Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. In churches across the country, pastors are installing altar rails. Some parishes are bringing the rails back to old churches after they were torn out decades ago.
