Well, that was a Monday. Last Thursday, the Kings were eliminated from the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Less than one week later, there’s uncertainty about what’s next in LA hockey circles. Over the weekend, we had a report that GM Rob Blake and coach Jim Hiller were both likely to return. Earlier today, Blake’s tenure came to an end after eight years. Now, the team is looking for a new GM, with a search set to begin immediately and led by team President Luc Robitaillle.

For Kings fans, there are likely no words that will make the sting of the past week go away anytime soon. It can be a frustration that comes from many different angles, often with a plethora of layers added in. There’s no right time to turn the page following the end of a team’s regular season either. If they win the Stanley Cup, let the parties flow all summer. Yet, the other 31 teams have to pick up the pieces and move forward with plans for next year — often before the fanbase is ready.

Any longtime reader of Mayor’s Manor or listener of the podcast knows, two of our most favorite topics are Kings prospects and Kings history. Later tonight, Taylor Ward is set to make his NHL debut with the club — and when he does, he’ll instantly become the answer to a trivia question. Taylor’s dad Dixon played for the Kings back in 1994. Thus, the Ward’s will become the first father-son duo to have ever played for the franchise in its 55+ year history.
