Give Madison senior Natalie Best this much: She knows how to put her best foot forward on a senior project. Batting in the heart of the Blue Streaks’ lineup as the cleanup hitter, Best singled twice and drove in three runs to lead her team to a 6-2 win over visiting Jefferson in a game that doubled as her National Honor Society service project, dubbed “Hit For The Heart” to raise money and awareness for heart disease.

Mentor alum Byron Floyd transferring to Youngstown State for final year of football

Byron Floyd is coming back to Ohio to finish his college football career. A product of Mentor, Floyd is transferring to Youngstown State for the 2025 season. He is currently finishing up his academic school year at the University at Buffalo, where he started all 13 games last season as the Bulls’ long snapper. Floyd (6-foot-1, 230 pounds) has one year of eligibility remaining, then hopes to earn a shot to make an NFL roster. “Youngstown State is a great opportunity,” Floyd said.

Thanks to the Leo Murphy Field & Equipment Grant, orchestrated via the Cleveland Touchdown Club Charities, the bill will be helped greatly this year in Burton. Berkshire has been named as one of three recipients of this year’s Leo Murphy Field and Equipment Grant, along with the Brookside Jr. Cardinals program and Impact Youth, Inc.
