    While looking through some of our old photos we came upon this one from the Sea Otter dual slalom event in 2008, where Gee Atherton, who would go on to become the Downhill World Champion of 2008 and 2014, crashed while we were shooting his race. If you look closely, there appears to be hole in the course, right under Gee’s back wheel, and we’re guessing that was probably what caused the crash.

    UCI WHOOP World Series,June 26,  2025 – After four fiercely contested UCI Enduro World Cup rounds, the 2025 series enters its second half with three weekends of racing and the outcome of both men’s and women’s overall titles still up for grabs. Val di Fassa, Trentino (Italy), is the setting of this weekend’s action, and with only Enduro on the cards, riders and fans will see a return to a two-day UCI Enduro World Cup round.

    Kay Peterson Cook shared on Facebook today that her husband, Don Cook, one of the key people in the history of the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame, died of  a coronary event on a mountain bike ride yesterday. Below you can see the rainbow photo and read the news about Don’s death that Kay shared online: “Some of you may have heard. Some not….I lost my best friend and husband yesterday. Donnie was doing what he loved…riding in our beautiful mountains. It was a coronary event.

    25th June 2025 – The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) Sports can confirm that 16 wildcard teams – eight cross-country and eight downhill – have been selected for round 11 of the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series in Pal Arinsal (Andorra) on July 10-13. While all eight teams that applied for a downhill spot secured a wildcard, it was a lot more competitive in the cross-country, with only half of the 16 applicants selected.

    The latest UCI points rankings were released on June 23rd, and they weren’t what we expected. As many of our readers probably know by now, the official UCI points rankings include all the UCI race results from the last 52 weeks. So, even though Jackson Goldstone and Christopher Blevins have been doing great this year, the latest UCI rankings include most of the races from last summer and fall as well.
