Here’s the news: “The Olympic mountain bike event in 2028 will be held at Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas, California. This park, located in the San Gabriel Mountains, is a 1,800-acre park that will be upgraded with a world-class mountain biking course.” Bonelli Park lies about 28 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Bonelli Park been the site of numerous races over the years, even drawing Nino Schurter to the event in the past.

After seeing the top mountain bike cross-country racers riding with drop bars in the Sea Otter Classic’s gravel race last Tuesday, and seeing that one of the bike companies is now offering a new mountain bike with drop bars, we were reminded of this cover of MBA from 1990, showing John Tomac competing in a cross-country race with drop bars on his Yeti mountain bike.

Two of the top mountain bikers of the last 10 years are proving themselves to be two of the top road bike riders in the world this year. Mathieu van der Poel (who finished second in the UCI Elite Men’s XCO rankings in both 2018 and 2019) and Pauline Ferrand Prevot (who has won five UCI XCO Mountain Bike World Championships as well as the 2024 Olympics) are both racing primarily on the road this year, and they’re proving themselves to be two of the top road racers in the world again.
