1 INTRODUCTION Interstitial lung disease (ILD) encompasses a diverse array of conditions that emerge as a result of inflammation and/or fibrosis of the lung parenchyma (Broaddus et al., 2016). Dyspnoea during physical activity (exertional dyspnoea) and exercise intolerance are prominent symptoms in people with ILD. Dyspnoea not only has prognostic implications for survival (Manali et al., 2008) but is also linked to diminished quality of life (Swigris et al., 2005).
