In September 2024, Mexico enacted judicial reforms that are fundamentally reshaping the federal judiciary, including by dismissing all current judges who were appointed based on merit and replacing them through popular elections. These changes may threaten judicial independence, politicize the judiciary, create unpredictability in how cases will be decided, and significantly lengthen the time for cases to be resolved.
