1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 State of the art Long fiber reinforced thermoplastics (LFT) offer a high potential for lightweight applications as they feature a high stiffness to weight ratio and may be manufactured with cost-efficient processes as injection or compression molding. Due to the heterogeneity of these composites, their elastic and inelastic mechanical behavior depends strongly on the material microstructure and the properties of the constituents.
