Four teenagers from Moody were found safe early Monday morning (June 9) after being reported missing near the Cahaba River. The group was last seen floating down the river in an inflatable pool around 6 p.m. on Sunday (June 8) near the Grants Mill boat launch. When their floatation device began to fail, the teens abandoned the pool and attempted to find their way to safety by following the creek bank, but they became lost in the process.

Birmingham area residents should prepare for severe weather on Saturday. The day will start warm and muggy, with morning temperatures in the 70s rising to the upper 80s by the afternoon. A man in Charlotte, North Carolina, was arrested for allegedly trying to steal a train from the North Tryon Street rail yard. Joseph Seigle, 43, was found in the conductor's car of an Amtrak train late Tuesday night (June 3). According to court documents, an Amtrak supervisor, Nicholas Pope, heard the train horn sound around 11:45 p.m. and discovered Seigle inside the train. Police were called after an argument between Seigle and Pope.

John Horhn has been elected as the new mayor of Jackson, Mississippi, defeating incumbent Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba in the primary runoff. Horhn's victory ends Lumumba's quest for a third term. According to unofficial results, Horhn secured 15,755 votes, while his closest competitor, independent candidate Rodney DePriest, received 6,561 votes. Other candidates included independents Zach Servis, Lillie Stewart-Robinson, and Kim Wade, as well as Republican Kenneth Gee.

A tornado struck Henry County, Georgia, on Thursday, causing significant damage and injuring residents. The tornado touched down in the Blacksville area near McDonough around 3:32 p.m., moving northeast at about 10 mph. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado, which left no advance warning for those in its path, according to Fox 5 Atlanta. The storm severely damaged 13 structures, with two homes completely destroyed.
