    League champion Redlands East Valley put four players on the baseball All-Citrus Belt League first team. First-teamers for REV are Griffin Cunningham, Cash Dabbs, Azael Hernandez, and Caleb Jamroz. Dabbs went 9-4 on the mound with a 1.77 earned run average. He also had 13 runs batted in at the plate. Hernandez went 0-0 on the mound with a 2.10 ERA and two saves. Jamroz went 7-1 on the mound with a 2.04 ERA. Cunningham hit .396 with five triples and 10 RBI.

    Beaumont, Redlands, and Yucaipa high schools dominated Citrus Belt League boys volleyball play and the All-CBL first team reflected that. Yucaipa put three players on the first team in JR Lopez, Dylan Spry, and Cooper Fry. League champion Beaumont put two players on the first squad – Jacob Chase and Bryce Jacobsen. Cajon landed two players on the first team, Nathaniel Young and Kyle Loomer. League Most Valuable Player Philip Shin and Saul Yanez made the first team for Redlands High.

    Reflecting a softball season in which Yucaipa, Citrus Valley, and Beaumont tied for the Citrus Belt League title and Cajon finished a game behind, all-league honorees were mostly equally distributed.  Yucaipa had three first-team honorees – league Pitcher of the Year Emily Mendoza, Makenna Pettey, and Peyton Seevers. Mendoza went 10-3 in the pitcher’s circle with a 0.76 earned run average. She struck out 77 and walked 17. Pettey hit .512 with nine home runs and 29 runs batted in.

    Michael Cullen, Redlands High’s state-meet-bound pole vaulter, was competing at the California Winter Championships at Arcadia High on February 8. Cullen took a deep breath. He raised his pole. He thundered down the runway and planted. His pole bent as he tucked his body into a L. He was fully upside down before turning his body 180 degrees and clearing the barrier. The Terrier star bounced off the mat and celebrated.
