Blake Minkler began playing water polo in the third grade after his cousin Logan Featherston received a pamphlet about the sport in middle school. Minkler decided to tag along after his cousin. Yucaipa High School is the beneficiary as Minkler, a junior attacker, has been named the IE Varsity Boys Water Polo Player of the Year.

The accomplishments and plaudits are accumulating for Yucaipa High sophomore Olivia Lewis. Lewis is now the IE Varsity Girls Tennis Player of the Year. This comes on top of a year in which she won the Ojai Tennis Tournament Junior Girls 16-and-under division, was the Citrus Belt League titlist, and made the Top 16 at the CIF Southern Section singles tournament. “I think that I did pretty well,” Lewis said. Yucaipa coach Scott Salinas was more outspoken.

A man aged in his late 80s has died in a tragic Christmas Day crash. The crash occurred on the N55 at Clarebane shortly after midnight. Emergency services attended the scene in Co Cavan on Wednesday morning after two cars collided in the incident. The elderly man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been taken to Cavan General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The four occupants of the second car were taken to Cavan General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
