My Sisters and Brothers in Christ,As Jesus appears to the disciples after His Resurrection, He offers Peace to each one. This Peace is not an earthly peace, one in which two people “shake hands upon an agreement” or resolve a difference. The Peace which Jesus offers is salvific. It is the offering of the eternal Covenant, the bounty of messianic blessing. This Peace is the effect of His Resurrection, for He is gathering the people to take comfort in eternal life.

Beloved Sisters and Brothers in Christ:Revelation Scripture 21:5 tells us that the One who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” This is what the apostles and disciples experience after the Resurrection of Jesus. They experience a transfigured heart through the resurrected Christ. They express uncertainty about what God wants for His people and their role to fulfill that divine desire. This small group of followers, even under the threat of persecution and death, continued to stay faithful to Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life.

Jesus comes to His beloved apostles and says the word, “peace.” It is a word from the lips of the Resurrected Christ rich in Divine love, a treasure of hope, grace of right relationship with God. Jesus’ peace goes beyond all telling. It is the fulfillment of God’s love. As we celebrate the Second Sunday of Easter, Sunday of Divine Mercy we ponder anew God’s love and our participation in salvation history.

Beloved People of God:How God’s mercy is ever placed on our heart! As our sinfulness laid the blows of the nails to crucify Jesus, in His own suffering, Jesus opens His heart to receive our transgressions and forgive. The revolutionary crucified next to Jesus is an outsider. He is not one of the apostles or disciples. This transgressor asks for Jesus’ forgiveness.
