Former ETSU star running back, Jacob Saylors has officially begun his professional career for the St. Louis Battlehawks of the United Football League. This past weekend was the first week of action for the newly merged UFL, which recently was purchased by Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson and Dany Garcia. In this opening weekend, the St. Louis Battlehawks played the Michigan Panthers at Ford Field.

The Samford Bulldogs beat ETSU 76-69 in the SoCon Championship game to punch their ticket to March Madness. ETSU came into the SoCon tournament as the No. 7-seed, despite being a 7-seed the Bucs were able to beat VMI, UNCG, and Chattanooga in the route to the Championship game. The game that sent ETSU to the SoCon title game was an overtime win versus Chattanooga that finished with an 85-84 final score.

On March 10 the Lady Mocs beat UNCG 69-60 to take home the SoCon Championship trophy and punch their ticket to March Madness. In the SoCon tournament the No. 5-seed ETSU women’s basketball team played their first-round game against No. 4-seed Mercer. In that game the Bears were able to secure the win over ETSU 67-52, ending their season. In the loss, ETSU’s Meghan Downing (New Madison, Ohio) shot an impressive 6-for-9 with 18 points and eight rebounds in 33 minutes of play.

East Tennessee State’s womens basketball team jumped on Western Carolina early in Saturday’s Southern Conference game and never looked back, winning 71-33 on Senior Day inside Brooks Gym. The margin of victory was the largest in the series since 1995. Prior to the opening tip-off, ETSU honored the five seniors — River Ruffus-Milner, Meleah Kirtner, Sarah Thompson, Jakhyia Davis and Breanne Beatty.
