ARLINGTON, Texas — It didn't take long for Las Vegas oddsmakers to install Ohio State as a heavy favorite over Notre Dame in the Jan. 20 national championship game. The Buckeyes defeated Texas, 28-14, in an exciting Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Friday night. Minutes later, MGM listed OSU as a 9.5-point favorite over the Fighting Irish. The game is scheduled to be played in Atlanta and will be televised on ESPN. The Buckeyes swept a home-and-home series with Notre Dame in 2022 and 2023.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Ohio State's first trip to Penn State after the Nittany Lions joined the Big Ten surely was one to forget. PSU joined the league in 1993 and welcomed the Buckeyes a year later for the first time as conference rivals. The No. 1 Nittany Lions scored early and often, racing to a 63-14 win over their overwhelmed guests. But in more recent years, Ohio State and Penn State have played some high-stakes classics, particularly in State College, Pa.+ Oct.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Ryan Day's critics say he can't win the big games. His Buckeyes have lost their last three games against Michigan. They lost to then-No. 3 Oregon last month. They couldn't beat Georgia in the College Football Playoff two years ago. But Day's supporters might focus on a different trend, one that has seen his Buckeyes go 5-0 against Penn State since Day's first full season as head coach in 2019.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WSYX) — Springfield Mayor Rob Rue said Monday that he and his family are getting death threats. Rue told ABC 6's Darrel Rowland during a Zoom interview that other city leaders also are getting death threats, some of whom have been targeted by swatting calls. "I've received death threats, against myself, my family," he said.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — As he did last August, Ohio State football coach Ryan Day is spending his post-practice media availabilities answering questions about a quarterback battle. A year ago, Kyle McCord beat out Devin Brown for the starting job, then led the Buckeyes to an 11-0 record before the sky fell in Columbus. This preseason, Kansas State transfer Will Howard looks to be the guy just ahead of Brown, who, unlike McCord, returned to OSU for the 2024 season.
