Two teams looking for upward mobility in Lake Conference baseball meet in a 6:30 p.m. game Friday, May 9, at Braemar Park. Hopkins travels to Edina that evening. Both teams had big Lake victories last week. Hopkins pitcher Karl Schiebe had his best outing of the season in beating first-place Minnetonka 2-0 April 30 on the turf field at Hopkins High. Schiebe went 6 2/3 innings, allowing only four hits. Reid Oertli came on the seventh when Schiebe reached the pitch count to chalk up the save.

Regardless of the sport, Minnetonka vs. Wayzata is always one of the best rivalries in the Lake Conference. The largest Lake Conference fastpitch crowd of the season showed up for a Minnetonka- Edina rematch April 30 at Edina's Pamela Park. Fans who had seen the first meeting of these teams in April were hungry for more at the end of the month. Minnetonka took the first meeting 3-2 in a pitchers' duel between its senior ace, Emily Campion, and Edina junior Ella Meyer. The second meeting last week was pretty much a mirror image of the first game with Campion pitching Minnetonka to a 4-1 win.

The Trojans traveled to Eden Prairie and defeated the Eagles 7-0 at Round Lake Park. On Saturday, May 3, the Trojans won another 7-0 decision over Edina on Edina's Steve Paulsen Courts. That left only Buffalo and St. Michael-Albertville on Wayzata's Lake Conference schedule.
