The Lake Conference girls fastpitch softball opener between Edina and Minnetonka April 10 at Minnetonka’s Legacy Field looked more like a state tournament game than a first game. Although the Wayzata High boys track and field team finished first in only one event during the Lake Conference Relays April 11 at Eden Prairie, Trojan head coach Aaron Berndt calculated that his team finished on top in total points. “We had a lot of second- and third-place finishes,” Berndt said. “This meet is always a good indicator of what might happens later in the season. It’s still early, and we have a lot of work to do, but I like our chances.

Wayzata, the defending state Class AA champion defeated St. Paul Academy April 8 with a sweep in singles. Edina had a doubles sweep during its victory over Minneapolis Southwest April 12.
