Autonomous surface vessel (ASV) developer Saronic Technologies reports it has acquired Gulf Craft, a Louisiana-based shipbuilder. The three-year-old Austin, Texas-based start-up said the acquisition of the Franklin, Louisiana, shipyard would “accelerate its growth into autonomous shipbuilding.” The company plans to use the shipyard as the prototyping and production hub for its medium unmanned surface vessel (MUSV) fleet, starting with Marauder, Saronic’s 46-m ASV.

A record number of offshore oil and gas exploration accidents were reported in Brazil in 2024, according to data from the country’s oil and gas regulatory body. The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), regulating body for the activities within the oil, natural gas and biofuels industries in Brazil, reported 731 accidents in offshore oil and gas exploration, or an average of two accidents per day in 2024.

Fuel switching operations will ramp up further over the next three years, driven by an increasing number of global emissions control areas (ECAs). By 1 May 2025, a new Mediterranean ECA will become effective, followed by the designation of the Canadian Arctic and Norwegian Sea regions as ECAs in March 2026. Both these new ECAs will come into force as of 1 March 2027, raising the total number of global ECAs to seven.
