It's Christmas 1978, and things are getting more serious for me on the cycling front as a budding young racer. I’d rapidly outgrown my Raleigh Europa, so it was time to go large (literally) with a brand spanking new 24-inch frame Falcon Professional. Boney M. and bobble hats, those were my Christmas Day trimmings in 1978.

I’m on a street corner close to HMP Wormwood Scrubs last Sunday evening, and I’m mentally spinning a coin on whether to turn left or right – Google Maps is not helping me right now. I choose wisely, and the delivery notes the customer has provided help me find the exact address, tucked away at the end of a courtyard.

“Just get on your bike.” It came from nowhere, but was also totally simplified and proven logic, to me at least. After months of soul searching and trying to rationalise and deal with an ever-deepening life issue, while sat there analysing things, going over the same old figures, looking for the reasoning, some justifications… and then suddenly, while staring deeply at my bike and in true Lawrence of Arabia style, I said out aloud: “Just get on your bike.”Was it divine intervention?

Twitter's still a shithole filled with nice, sane bike riders wasting their time arguing with petrolhead wankstains I see. Imagine if y'all used Twitter to coordinate campaigning and get people to join their local cycling campaign groups instead eh.

Just in case anyone's wondering what I've been up to lately, here's a bit about e-bikes. And cancer. https://t.co/4dm8C7wa6t https://t.co/kha2ZfUm8z

https://t.co/OWepu6biff That's where you should be if you have the sense to flee Twitter and join Mastodon. Elon Musk is banning anyone who disagrees with him. How long till he realises that cycling advocacy threatens a business model based on motor supremacy & carbon fraud?
