They meet clandestinely each month as the moon is nearly full — a burly Stranger and a smaller Young Man.

IN Series kicks off its “Illicit Opera” season of banned and dangerous works with The Cradle Will Rock, the radically pro-worker folk opera by Marc Blitzstein that in 1936 the feds famously shut down on opening night. To evade the ban, the cast schlepped to another theater where they performed from the house for a packed audience, accompanied by Blitzstein at the piano alone onstage.

At the beginning two young men stand back to back and, to prerecorded guitar accompaniment, begin to dance the dreamlike drama of a recollected unrequited queer infatuation that unfolds in Pondering About My Memories. The two performers, whom I’ll call the rememberer (Pablo Guillen) and the crush (Joshua Cole Lucas), have a lyrical physical synchronity (they’ve both spent time with Synetic).
