I read George Tristan's guest opinion published in the April 15 Times-Call. I really appreciate the obvious time and effort extended for such an astute and well developed opinion piece. I was touched by George's very personal sharing of his fallout with his daughter over politics and his heartfelt process to do the hard work of “traversing this chasm” to repair their relationship. There is a housing shortage in our area, and specifically, affordable housing. What can we do to make housing available and more affordable? Building codes are a common target, but we really want to keep regulations that create safe and durable housing. Instead, should we consider changing the tax code, recreating a local prefab industry, or limiting short term rentals.

The Times-Call set a great exampleI am truly impressed by the action taken by the TC recently, when they failed to cover the “Hands Off!” rally in Longmont. It started with the publication of angry letters to the editor from people who were outraged by the lack of coverage. The TC exposed the issue at their own expense. A few days later, the “Hands Off!” story ran on the front page. It was the same terrific coverage that we rely on our local newspaper to report.

I don't know what other consumers will do while the big boys throw rocks and mud at their supposed enemies over tariffs, but it feels like watching a gang of pre-pubescent school bullies yelling and picking fights with everyone else on the playground. I for one will postpone all but the most critical purchases for as long as it takes until the juvenile delinquents in the Trump administration are put in their place.
