Vision-language models (VLMs) combine the powerful language understanding of foundational LLMs with the vision capabilities of vision transformers (ViTs) by projecting text and images into the same embedding space. They can take unstructured multimodal data, reason over it, and return the output in a structured format. Building on a broad base of pretraining, they can be easily adapted for different vision-related tasks by providing new prompts or parameter-efficient fine-tuning.

On paper Kennoway and Tupelo have little or, let’s be honest, no connection whatsoever. However the adventures you are about you read will prove otherwise. Kennoway, located near Leven in Fife, Scotland has a population of 4,500 hardy straight-talking Fifers. A former weaving and shoe making village which, during the last century gained prosperity through its links to the brewing and malting industries.

Concert: Lloyd Cole

“Hey Lloyd. Scotland have just qualified for the Euro finals in Germany!”
Probably not the normal kind of audience interaction you get at a Lloyd Cole gig, however it was well received by everyone in the room, including the great man himself.

Equipment downtime—whether planned or unplanned—is costly to any laboratory. Downtime can result in lost operational time, lost resources, lost or delayed samples, and increased frustration for lab personnel. A study by Frost & Sullivan showed that lab managers ranked instrument maintenance and downtime as their top challenge.

Recently, NVIDIA unveiled Jetson Generative AI Lab, which empowers developers to explore the limitless possibilities of generative AI in a real-world setting with NVIDIA Jetson edge devices. Unlike other embedded platforms, Jetson is capable of running large language models (LLMs), vision transformers, and stable diffusion locally. That includes the largest Llama-2-70B model on Jetson AGX Orin at interactive rates.

Concert: We Could Send Letters
Venue: Strathaven HotelDate: 29 September 2023
It has been four very eventful years since the debut FRETS show – Lloyd Cole, at the start of October 2019. From that auspicious start, and despite the chaotic interruption of Covid, FRETS has gone from strength to strength. The cream of Scottish indie pop and a plethora of similarly eclectic artists have gravitated towards the Strathaven Hotel, creating indelible memories for those lucky to be in attendance.

There is no reason to preserve predators that are dangerous to humans. Bears and wolves are examples of creatures that serve no ecological purpose. One human killed by a bear or wolf is too many. We can manage other creatures formerly limited by dangerous climax predators. Bears, in particular, serve no purpose. Their droppings may be missed by riparian flora. I applaud the eradication of these threats to human safety. — John WelshSitkaHave something on your mind? Send to

Imagine you are a robotics or machine learning (ML) engineer tasked with developing a model to detect pallets so that a forklift can manipulate them. You are familiar with traditional deep learning pipelines, you have curated manually annotated datasets, and you have trained successful models. You are ready for the next challenge, which comes in the form of large piles of densely stacked pallets. You might wonder, where should I begin?
