    COVENTRY — The CIAC baseball state tournament quarterfinals will take place on Saturday to determine who will be one of the four remaining teams in the semifinals. One of those teams that hopes to be moving on is the No.11 Coventry Patriots baseball team. Coventry will travel to take on the Shepaug Valley Wildcats on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., looking to become semifinal-bound and keep alive their chances of defending their Class S state title.

    COVENTRY — Coventry softball is quarterfinal-bound. After having a bye in the first round, the No.6 Coventry Patriots softball team routed the  No. 22 Shepaug Valley Spartans 12-1 on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Class S state tournament. With Coventry moving on, they will travel to the No.3  Hale Ray Noises on Friday. Hale Ray edged the Coginchaug Blue Devils 2-1 in seven innings on a walk-off base hit to set up another match-up with Coventry.

    COVENTRY — Coventry baseball is inching its way closer to having the opportunity to defend its Class S state title. Following rolling past the No.22 Northwest Catholic on Monday, the  No.11 Coventry Patriots baseball team cruised past the No.27 Immaculate Mustangs 12-2 on Tuesday. With Coventry defeating Immaculate, the Patriots are moving on to the quarterfinals. Coventry will travel to face Shepaug Valley on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. to determine who will advance to the semifinals.

    MANSFIELD — E.O. Smith lives to fight another day due to their offense firing on all cylinders. Hosting the No.24 Pomperaug Panthers, the  No.8 E.O. Smith Panthers softball team cruised to a 14-2 win in five innings on Monday behind its eight-run third inning. With the win, E.O. Smith advances to the second round of the Class L state tournament. E.O. Smith will travel to the No.9 Berlin Redcoats at 4:00 p.m. on Monday after they defeated the Bristol Central Rams 16-4 in five innings.

    It was a busy day for the area teams with multiple teams in action on Monday. However, there weren’t many teams that were able to move on to survive and advance. While most teams were eliminated, the  No.17 RHAM Raptors softball team is advancing to the second round after defeating the No.16  Killingly Redmen 5-3. RHAM will be back in action on Wednesday trying to pull off the upset when they take on the No.1 Masuk Panthers.
