SAYRE – While the Howard Elmer Park Bandstand project has been completed and is ready for summer with a fresh makeover, Sayre Borough is still on the lookout for donations to officially close the books on the endeavor. Recently, a new copper roof was installed on the structure by Mac Builders. Following the construction, painting and other repairs were made to the bandstand, according to Borough Manager Dave Jarrett. The total cost of the project is approximately $130,000.

WAVERLY — A home gutted by flames more than two years ago on Waverly Street in Waverly is finally set to be torn down, village officials announced Tuesday. The house at 458 Waverly St. was severely damaged by an accidental fire in January 2023. Due to legal issues and the presence of asbestos in the building, demolition was delayed for more than two years — frustrating residents and officials who were concerned about the safety risks.

Retiring borough police officer Steve Burlingame was presented with a plaque commemorating his three decades of service for the Sayre police department.

SAYRE — Two Sayre School District parents came before the school board Monday to voice concerns regarding a bus driver they alleged harasses students and drives recklessly. Ed Bustin was hands down one of my favorite people to work with no doubt in my mind. An amazing person & a great local leader. Words can't describe how sad I am & I know that doesn't even remotely capture what his family is going through. My thoughts and prayers with all of them.

Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Bradford County Commissioner Ed Bustin who passed away today. He will be missed throughout the county, but specifically here in the Valley, a place he loved and called home.
