Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia stated that the state is currently sheltering 500,183 displaced persons. The governor who spoke during the joint mission visit of the International Organization for Migration IOM and ECHO to the state on Thursday said that the population accounted for 38% of the displaced population in this region. He said that the people are dispersed across 26 camps and 185 host communities with enduring conditions that are far from ideal.

No fewer than 250 suspects were charged to court for various crimes in Benue State between April and December 2024. The Commissioner of Police, Benue State, Hassan Yabanet, stated this in a statement issued and made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Monday. Providing a breakdown, the police chief revealed that 273 suspects were arrested in connection with capital offenses, 20 firearms were recovered, and 51 rounds of ammunition were also recovered.

No fewer than 11 people were reportedly killed by suspected armed herders who invaded some communities in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State on Christmas Day. The attackers were said to have invaded Ityuluv, Tse Azege, and Innyievya communities in the Mkomon district of Turan in Kwande LGA, turning the Christmas joy into sorrow.
