The nonprofit has distributed hundreds of backpacks, tents and blankets each month to those in need. RICHMOND, Va. — A Richmond resident and Army veteran is raising questions about the state's use of the National Guard in response to last week's water crisis. "The Virginia Army National Guard is meant to call out for disasters, situations exactly like this," said Joe Sokohl, who served for 16 years in the Army and nearly a decade in the National Guard.

RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond's water treatment plant malfunctioning on Monday left homes, businesses, and hospitals across the city without access to water. HCA Healthcare Company, which oversees Retreat Doctors' Hospital, said they were without water by late morning and had to divert patients to other hospitals. "The situation is developing and we have activated our HCA Virginia resources to minimize the impact on our patients," the company stated.

RICHMOND, Va. — The snow has stopped and many of the main roads Storm Rider 6 traveled on Monday evening are either mostly clear or have a light dusting of snow. However, this does not mean they'll be safe to travel on Tuesday morning. Many of the wet roads if not already frozen will freeze as temperatures continue to drop overnight. Drivers should be very cautious of black ice out on the roads.

ETTRICK, Va. — For the second year in a row, the Trojan Explosion Band from Virginia State University is getting ready to perform at a big event in Atlanta. They are competing for the title of HBCU Band of the Year, which is a national competition on ESPN. The band is traveling from their campus in Virginia to Atlanta to try to win this prestigious competition. This year, the Trojan Explosion Band has earned recognition as one of top Division II HBCU band in the country.

RICHMOND, Va. — A new traffic light was installed at the intersection of Chamberlayne Avenue and Bacon Street as part of a plan to make one of Richmond's busiest roads safer. Dorothy Leftridge has lived off of Chamberlayne Ave. for almost 4 years at senior living apartments. She describes the driving as dangerous. "Something seriously needs to be done about that traffic flow," she said.

RICHMOND, Va. — After making a promise to get funding to renovate the senior sites inside of Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority, CEO Steven Nesmith recently announced around $18 million was found for the project. This commitment came after CBS 6 spoke with several residents at the Stonewall Apartments in July, as they expressed concern about not having a working AC unit in their common areas.

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — A Central Virginia woman is encouraging shoppers gearing up for Cyber Monday to first support Secondhand Sunday to promote regifting, reselling and shopping secondhand. In addition to Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, the Sunday after Thanksgiving aims to help secondhand sellers and local organizations that give away secondhand clothing. "All of our clothing is donated from the public," Dr. Shantell Chambliss with Dress for Success Central Virginia explained.
