The recommendation declared 11.39 acres of real property at 505 Briarmeadow as surplus property for potential sale, motioned by Trustee Beau Egert and seconded by Trustee Laura Seifert. “There wasn’t any vision for what to do with the space short of a fifth elementary,” Superintendent Thad Roher said.

To kick off the season, students had their Big-Little Dinner on Monday, July 29. “The Big-Little system is the first chance for incoming students to become integrated into the band program and can even kickstart lifelong friendships,” band vice president Evan Yang said.

Soon to be sixth grader Allison Williams was the chosen winner after her family gave the highest bid in an auction hosted by the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation to help fundraise for teacher grants.

Mary Kerr, Mary Scheschuk, Margaret Kerr, Trinity Bosely, and Katherine Janda make up the 2023-2024 varsity girls’ team. This year marks the team as back-to-back state qualifiers for the first time in Friendswood’s history.

Friendswood ISD is one of many districts having to make serious budget cuts. During this legislative period, the state has pushed Governor Greg Abbott to alleviate some of the $32.7 billion budget surplus; however, Abbott wants bills regarding school vouchers to be passed first. This has created a standstill with no additional funding released.
