Political journalists and senior politicians have expressed shock at the sudden death of former Daily Express political editor and Member of the European Parliament Patrick O'Flynn, aged 59. He was a prolific commentator for the Express titles and other publications and a loyal supporter of Nigel Farage, serving as a United Kingdom Independence Party MEP from 2014 until 2019. Mr O'Flynn is understood to have died from cancer which advanced rapidly.

Further moves to amend the controversial assisted dying bill are being made by MPs as it returns to the Commons for another day of emotionally charged debate. After a marathon committee stage, when more than 500 amendments were debated, of which a third were agreed, the bill returns to the Commons with 130 amendments tabled. As a result, the final and decisive votes on whether the bill clears the Commons and heads to the House of Lords are not expected until a further debate on 13 June.

There was no conflict of interest in the incoming football regulator chair donating to Sir Keir Starmer's Labour leadership campaign, Downing Street has said. Appearing before the Culture, Media and Sport select committee on Wednesday, David Kogan admitted he had donated "very small sums of money" to the leadership bids of Sir Keir and Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy in 2020. Mr Kogan told the pre-appointment hearing this hadn't been discovered by the media, but he was "happy to declare it now".
