Two Long Island natives are going for gold in Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. North Babylon native Brianna Jones will play on Puerto Rico's women's basketball team. Her first game with team Puerto Rico on Saturday against Serbia. Commack native Halle Hazzard will run in the 100 meters for Grenada on Aug. 2. Pauline Hazzard, Halle’s mom, shared a special message for her Olympian. "Be humble as you usually be and you're already there. You don't have anything to prove. Just be yourself," she said.

" A Long Island business owner partnered with New York State Parks staff to clean up Jones Beach after a busy Fourth of July holiday. State Parks staff say over 194,000 people headed out to Jones Beach for the annual fireworks show Thursday. Once the fireworks stopped lighting up the sky over Jones Beach, Zuleima Trujillo and her staff of 25 people went up and down the over six miles of beaches cleaning it up for guests for the next day.

The U.S. Supreme Court has struck down an opioid settlement worth $6 billion. The funds would have been paid to those impacted by the opioid crisis. In exchange, the Sackler family, who controlled Purdue Pharma, would have been released from liability in future cases. The payout would have been part of a Purdue Pharma bankruptcy reorganization. The justices ruled 5-4 that a bankruptcy court could not release the Sacklers from legal claims made by opioid victims.

Over 100 West Islip residents voiced their concerns about a proposed cellphone tower that would go along the Robert Moses Causeway entrance ramp during a meeting Thursday. Developers for the project, Crown Castle, told neighbors T-Mobile and Verizon are two main parties interested as a way to improve their service in the area. After the meeting, however, neighbors say they feel questions are left unanswered. "What other locations were actually looked at by T-Mobile or by Verizon?

A record crowd of over 106,000 people came out Friday for the practice show of the Bethpage Air Show. Long Islanders packed Jones Beach to kick off the unofficial start to summer with their eyes on the sky. "It's Memorial Day weekend, you have to come out for the air show,” said Eileen Shultis, of Levittown. “It's tradition!"Now in its 20th year, the Air Show has become a “can’t miss” for many Long Islanders.
