SMITHVILLE, Mo. — Mace McKim’s breakout sophomore season rolled on Monday at the Smithville Invitational. McKim was a instant contributor last season, making state in the shot put, but just missing out on a medal. He just missed out on making state in the discus as well. As a sophomore, McKim has quickly established himself as one of Class 3’s best throwers. McKim is second in the state in the shot put, but has made huge strides in the discus where he is ranked fifth in the state.

SMITHVILLE, Mo. — Two years ago, Brylee Acklin burst onto the Spoofhound track and field scene. She won four medals at the state meet two seasons ago and was immediately the team’s scoring leader. Fast forward to her junior year and Acklin is still leading the Spoofhounds. That leadership has just grown beyond points and medals. “Brylee has done a really good job of mentoring her and helping her along the way,” Maryville coach Rodney Bade said.

STANBERRY, Mo. — Nodaway Valley senior Ava Graham is off to a 6-0 start in her events this season with four first-place finishes in the discus and two first-place marks in the shot put. She is currently the Class 1 state leader in both events despite battling an elbow injury through the first few weeks of the season. “I’ve never really been fully 100% so I’m trying to get back into the groove where it is starting to feel a little bit better,” Graham said.
