PARIS - Liu Yang flexed his muscles to successfully defend his Olympic title in the rings final on Sunday, earning China their long-awaited first gold medal in gymnastics at the Paris Games. The 29-year-old scored 15.300 points, edging out compatriot Zou Jingyuan's 15.233. Silver medallist Zou had been the top qualifier for the final, with Team Japan head coach Hisashi Mizutori calling the Chinese gymnast's rings routine "beautiful, powerful and inimitable".

PARIS - China's Fan Zhendong earned redemption by beating Sweden's Truls Moregard in the men's table tennis singles final on Sunday to make up for the gold he missed out on three years ago in Tokyo. The 4-1 victory adds to China's gold medal sweep in the sport so far at the Paris Olympics, following his teammates' earlier triumphs in the women's singles and mixed doubles. PARIS - Kim Woo-jin completed a South Korean sweep of the Paris Olympic archery titles when he won the individual men's gold on Sunday in a shoot-off with American Brady Ellison. South Korea cemented their status as archery supremos with their fifth Paris gold medal, adding to the women's individual title and the three team golds - in men's, women's and mixed. Ellison took silver in the individual men's event and South Korea's Lee Woo-seok won the bronze.
