(Janes)Pakistan has test-launched a Fatah-series missile during a continuing military training exercise named ‘Indus', the Pakistan armed force's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on 5 May. The launch, featuring an unknown variant of the Fatah weapon, is the second that the Pakistan military has conducted in recent days as tensions with neighbour India rise.

    In nominal terms, and before the effects of inflation, India's defence budget has grown steadily in recent years to reach INR6.81 trillion in 2025–26. (Janes)India's Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 1 February a 2025–26 defence budget of INR6.81 trillion (USD78.4 billion). The MoD said the new budget represents about 13.5% of total annual government expenditure and a nominal increase (before inflation) of about 9.5% over the defence budget for 2024–25.

    HMAS Brisbane fires a Tomahawk Weapon System off the coast of San Diego, US. (Commonwealth of Australia)A Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Hobart-class destroyer has carried out the service's first firing of the Tomahawk cruise missile. The Department of Defence (DoD) in Canberra said on 10 December that HMAS Brisbane (DDG-41) – the second of the RAN's three Hobart-class destroyers – carried out the firing during a test and evaluation activity conducted off the west coast of the United States.

    Japan has selected the T-6 Texan II to meet a JASDF requirement for a new primary trainer aircraft. (Textron Aviation Defense)Japan's Ministry of Defense (MoD) has selected the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II turboprop aircraft as the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's (JASDF's) next-generation basic trainer platform. An MoD notice issued on 29 November said the T-6 was selected for the JASDF requirement ahead of three other bidders.
