What a moment yesterday at American Family Field. 105-year old WWII veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor, Ed Miklavcic, tossing in that first pitch. Imagine telling Ed in 1941 (when he was 21 years old!) that in the year 2025 he’d be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch for the Milwaukee Brewers (a team that didn’t exist yet) at American Family Field (a venue that wouldn’t be build for another 60 years).

Get this cow on the PBS cooking show MILK Street amiright?? Ahhhh. We have fun. Not a lot to add to this one other than that I did not know that moo-cows are capable of this kind of chaos. Anytime I point to them in a field I’m driving by (“cows”- me) they seem to be just chillin’. But this cow was an agent of chaos! I didn’t know I needed cows in my cooking shows until today, but I’m glad I know now.

That camera angle, with a ball hit that hard:I don’t think I’ve ever seen that camera angle on a ball that was absolutely TAGGED. I mean the ball literally disappeared into the sky in .2 seconds. Yeli knew it the second he hit it. I can’t imagine what that must feel like as a player when you square up a baseball like that and hit it into the atmosphere*. No doubt shot, strutting your ass to first base to make your way around the bags. It must feel like you’re walking on air.

Freddy Peralta right now:So yesterday they made a trade with the Red Sox, sending 19-year old outfield prospect, Yophery Rodriguez, and bringing back 24-year old righty Quinn Priester. First things first: Quinn Priester sounds like a villain from a Spaghetti Western.

So if you listen to the podcast you know that I was one of many old men yelling at clouds when it comes to the above video. I don’t want to be dramatic, but if you pull the Ray Charles version of this song for a Noah Kahan cover, you should be sent directly to jail. And that’s nothing against Noah Kahan! I actually enjoy some of his music, and there are country stations that are starting to add his singles to their rotation.
The Bob Uecker Tribute video before yesterday’s home opener was A++.

Welp. That was a masterpiece of a tribute. Brian Anderson wrote it, and then to get all of those voices that worked with Uecker over the years to contribute a line or two was perfect. And they even got Pat Hughes! A lot of the guys that worked with Ueck went on to great things with other teams, but Hughes joined Ueck as a Ford C Frick award winner at the Baseball Hall of Fame when he was inducted in 2023.

Things you love to see: This. Look obviously it’s going to be a weird year in the aftermath of a legend like Ueck passing. I realize he’d been on a very prorated schedule the last few years, but just knowing that when you turn on the radio there’s no chance you’re going to hear, ‘hello again everyone and welcome….’ is going to feel bizarre.
