I hate Mega Man. As a kid, when the NES originals were shiny and new, I would go to my friend’s house and gape at the colorful robot action as his older brother plowed through level after level. The lack of smooth scrolling meant each new screen held a surprise. And often, that surprise ended with a life-ending pit of spikes, the Blue Bomber falling and exploding into a slow-motion firework of 8-bit shrapnel. Fun to watch? Oh yeah.

Donkey Kong has had a long and fruitful career as a mainstay of Nintendo’s playable menagerie. After early rounds of spaceships and generic cowboys, DK was the first named character of Nintendo’s modern era, one that now boasts the most valuable stable of I.P. this side of Disney. But it was his Donkey Kong Country games, first developed by Rare and then Retro Studios, that gave him a franchise of his own to run and jump through.

It happens near the end of every year: Agency leaders consider shifting federal IT resources to “the cloud” when agencies feel their budgets are stretched or uncertain – and as rampant data growth keeps demanding more compute, network and storage resources. The prevailing opinion is that the public cloud is inherently less expensive than an on-premise solution, since someone else runs the server, network and power infrastructure. Certainly, these leaders are not alone.

I sat in high school French class, listening to the incomprehensible words spoken by the teacher. My own thoughts were easier to understand: Katie. She sat directly in front of me. Every day I thought to talk to her; every bus ride home I chided myself for not doing so. The cycle repeated for most of my freshman year – and then far beyond. That was 25 years ago, and I chalked it up to adolescent nerves.

Nintendo’s future innovations are all baked into their past: Just in the Game & Watch line alone they gave us… The D-Pad (NES)! The dual-screen (NDS)! The kickstand (Switch)! Look for Switch 2, then, to have a foldable case and mirror screen. https://t.co/Ao7ftDFjnn
