    So Narcis Pelach is the latest man tasked with dragging Stoke City out of the doldrums, the sixth man in the dugout at the bet365 Stadium in the last six seasons since the club suffered relegation in May 2018. His appointment was confirmed yesterday as the Stoke hierarchy moved quickly to replace Steven Schumacher, who was sacked a couple of days before.

    It’s that ridiculous time of the year when hearts rule heads, when common sense goes out of the window and optimism - usually misplaced - is the order of the day. Yes, the new football season is almost with us, and even though the facts suggest one thing, countless supporters will be getting swept along by the expectation that things are going to be different this time. Of course, for all but a few lucky fans, this will not end up being the case.

    Our hearts are heavy as we continue to mourn the tragic events that unfolded last month at Westfield, Bondi Junction, and across our city. The senseless loss of lives in such a familiar setting strikes deep at our sense of security. All of us go shopping. We can’t bear to think that our loved ones might be unsafe when they go shopping. As we grapple with grief and anger, we soon enough look for someone to blame, yet, as I was recently reminded, most anger is simply unprocessed sadness.

    Dear Inner Circle,  In one of the more beautiful and yet bizarre days as CEO and Pastor of Wayside Chapel, I recently swapped stories of loneliness with the Federal Treasurer over breakfast at a business event, rocked out to a Queen marathon being played in our Community Cafe at lunch, and spent the evening doing the Sydney street count.  I was joined on the street count by a friendly man named Mac.
