The MACC screenings will include a few Maui premieres.

The calendar’s success spawned a hit movie, a hit play, and a subsequent musical. Directed by Sally Sefton, “Calendar Girls,” the play, will open on Oct. 11 at MAPA’s Living Room.

This 17th annual event will feature male and female dancers performing kahiko (traditional) and ‘auana (modern) hula stylings, with participating hālau attending from throughout the state and the Mainland. “It’s Maui’s premier adult hula competition,” explains Kahulu Maluo-Pearson, Kumu Hula of Hālau Kamaluokaleihulu.

Based in Paris, Nitadori was born in Tokyo and lived for a time on Maui.
