Predicting Carolina Panthers primetime games in 2025

Every NFL team gets at least one standalone game each year. That had generally been associated with every team getting a primetime game, but the NFL bucked that trend by not giving one particular team any night games. That team-the Carolina Panthers. Their lone standalone game was an early morning battle with the hapless Giants. The NFL schedule gets released in full on Wednesday night.

The Carolina Panthers kick off rookie minicamp today. They released the full list of attendees, which includes the draft picks, 19 undrafted free agents, and 14 tryout players. It'll be our first opportunity to hear about the rookies in Panthers' uniforms. We expect a lot of that to be about Tetairoa McMillan and the new edge rushers. But perhaps the most interesting part of camp is hearing about which undrafted players are standing out among their peers.

All of the real fun offseason stuff as passed us by. There may be another free agent signing or two here and there, but for the most part, the roster is set. The Carolina Panthers shored up a bunch of holes on defense in free agency and started stockpiling some depth in the draft. With most of the roster construction done, we shift our focus towards more actual football.

The Carolina Panthers had a draft that made most Panthers fans happy. The Atlanta Falcons did the same, as we talked about here. The New Orleans Saints? Maybe not so much. They've developed a bit of a reputation for odd draft strategies; think trading up to reach for Marcus Davenport in 2018. They didn't do anything to fight that perception in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Carolina Panthers had themselves a nice draft. They landed another target for Bryce Young and got some young pass rushers to bolster their defense. They've got to be feeling good about how they've improved their team. The same can be said for a lot of their rivals. The Atlanta Falcons had a draft that seemed to be based on a bunch of Carolina Panther mock drafts. Their selections: 15: Jalon Walker, Edge/LB, Georgia 26: James Pearce Jr., Edge, Tennessee 96: Xavier Watts, Safety.

The 2025 NFL Draft has come and gone. The Carolina Panthers made moves all over the draft and ended up with eight draft picks as well as a handful of undrafted free agents. Dan Morgan and company largely hit on areas where the Panthers could use some help, so the draft class has a chance to make a pretty immediate impact. With all the new players, it's a good time to look at a rough draft of the Panthers current depth chart if the season started today. Starters are in bold.

The Carolina Panthers selected Florida defensive tackle Cam Jackson with the second pick of the 5th round (140th overall) in the 2025 NFL Draft. Jackson is a monster of a human being. At the combine, he measured in at 6'6", 328 pounds with 34 1/8" arms (those are long arms). He's primarily a run stuffer in the middle of the line, using his size and length to occupy blockers and clog up run lanes.

Scourton is a power player that had 10 sacks with Purdue in 2023. He played a different role in 2024 for Texas A&M, which played a part in his dip in production. He's a potential three down player with positive traits as both a pass rusher and a run stopper. Every scouting report heavily emphasizes how heavy his hands are. On the surface, it seems like the Panthers snagged a good value pick at a position of heavy need even after a bit of a run at the position at the top of the second round.

Twas the day before the NFL Draft, and all around the Internet, the prognosticators and pontificators tidied up their mocks in the hopes that they would be the best pretend drafter of them all. Every person who is or claims to be an NFL Draft expert has been releasing their final mock drafts in the days leading up to the real thing. We read them all to hold us over knowing full well we'll forget every single one of them by the time all the real picks are completed Saturday afternoon.
