Corsham Football Club removes concrete wall around pitch

A football club has removed a concrete wall surrounding their pitch after a player was injured at a nearby club. Corsham Town Football Club has been overhauling its ground, replacing the wall with a mesh fence. Bath City's Alex Fletcher, 23, suffered a serious head injury after leaving the pitch and colliding with a similar wall when playing at Twerton Park. "Having a concrete block wall around a pitch is not really the best thing you can do," said Director Joe Barker.
Malmesbury's flooded pitch still closed off to players

A football pitch has been unusable since the end of October after it was flooded with river water and sewage. The Malmesbury Victoria Football Club's pitch was closed after a nearby pumping station failed following heavy rain. Wessex Water said they fixed the issue quickly and issued the public health guidance for the pitch next to the Tetbury Avon River. Players were advised not to use the facility for at least 50 days after the incident.

A British explorer says it is "such a shame" his latest challenge has been postponed. Sir David Hempleman-Adams and two adventurers were due to fly across the Atlantic in an open basket gas balloon. They had planned to collect air samples for scientists during the trip. Sir David, who is from Wiltshire, said they had waited more than three months for the right weather conditions but it was now too late in the year. "It was very frustrating," he told BBC Radio Wiltshire.
