A city charter could be placed in front of Fullerton voters as soon as November 2026. A divided City Council has chosen the more expedient of two options to get a charter on a ballot. An option that also gives the council more control over writing the charter. Councilmembers Shana Charles and Ahmad Zahra, outspoken critics of the chartering initiative since Mayor Fred Jung raised the idea earlier this year, voted against proceeding.

Moving forward, the city of Irvine will keep greater control over the location of new warehouses. And, the city will stop the expansion of warehousing facilities into new planning areas. A highly anticipated ordinance recently approved by the City Council will require prospective warehouse developers to go through additional permitting processes with the city to see their projects come to fruition.

In his commencement address to the UC Irvine School of Social Ecology on Monday, California Attorney General Rob Bonta did not shy away from politics as he challenged graduates to take a stand against injustice. “I’m here to call you to action,” he told the graduates, who have completed studies in fields related to criminology and law, urban planning and public policy and other social studies.

The City Council has selected a hometown guy as Orange’s next city manager, the city announced Friday. Jarad Hildenbrand will be replacing retiring city manager Tom Kisela, who has held the post since 2022 after he retired as chief of the Orange Police Department. Raised in Orange and a graduate of Villa Park High, Hildenbrand has been serving as city manager of Laguna Hills since 2022. Prior to that, he held city manager roles in Stanton, La Habra Heights and Villa Park.
