WEST UNITY — Montpelier junior Logan Pontious has been trying to break the boys shot put record not only all season, but for most of his high school career. Not only did he break it at Friday’s Hilltop Paul Kyser Relays, but he did it twice. Pontious, on his first throw of the evening at Daft Field in West Unity, threw a 58-3 to shatter the previous record of 57-7 (Dean Dreher, 1969), which he sniffed earlier in the season with multiple marks of 57-5.

BRYAN — It didn’t take long for Bryan’s softball team to score against Napoleon in Tuesday’s nonleague game at Recreation Park in Bryan. The Golden Bears slapped six singles and plated four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-0 lead. State-ranked Bryan then tacked on four more runs while junior standout Thea Staten had a no-hit bid through six innings to secure an 8-1 victory in a bout between two programs that played each other in a district final last season.

BRYAN — Bryan’s baseball team matched Patrick Henry’s five hits with five of its own in Monday’s Northwest Ohio Athletic League game at Sumpter Field in Bryan. But, in a battle between aces Mack Hieber and Carter Dominique, errors cost the state-ranked Golden Bears and propelled the Patriots. Two Bryan errors in the top of the second inning scored three Patrick Henry runs, breaking a 1-all tie. Hieber and the defense behind him then cruised the rest of the way for a 5-1 NWOAL victory.
