    After the US Middle East Envoy rejected Hamas’s response to his ceasefire proposal, there has been more bloodshed in Gaza, with airstrikes on Gaza City. But accounts of what happened near an aid distribution point in the south of the strip are mired in dispute. There are four distribution centres run by the controversial US-Israeli backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, with only a couple of them operational as yet.

He sued for defamation over a documentary and accompanying online article that alleged he sanctioned the murder of a Denis Donaldson, an MI5 informant, which he denied. Donaldson’s daughter has called for an urgent public inquiry into her father’s killing.

    Ukraine’s allies have called on President Putin to commit to a thirty-day ceasefire. Joining other European leaders in Kyiv, the Prime Minister said Russia had to show it was “serious about peace” or face “new and massive sanctions”. But a day after more than 20 world leaders travelled to Moscow for a victory day parade, the Kremlin condemned what it called the “confrontational character” of the leaders’ statements. But it said Russia would consider the ceasefire proposal.

    Flanked by the Chinese president Xi Jinping and generals from North Korea, the Russian leader Vladimir Putin has presided over the annual Victory day parade in Moscow’s Red Square – the country’s biggest display of military might. The Kremlin imposed heavy security for the event – blocking off the city centre and shutting down most access to the internet, as scores of military vehicles rumbled past, from intercontinental ballistic missiles to unmanned battlefield drones.
